Formed in 2000 in South East Queensland, ECOROC has built a track record of success in providing clients with informed expert advice and practical solutions in the sustainable development and management of extractive resources, quarries and other geo-assets (including development of geotourism).


ECOROC is headed by Dugald Graya highly-experienced quarrying industry management consultant, mining engineer and practitioner with 30 years experience in Australia and the United Kingdom.


Dugald is a chartered professional engineer (CP Eng), Member of the Institute of Engineers, Australia (MIEAust), holds an MBA (Bond), and is a Fellow (FIQ) and past national president of the Institute of Quarrying Australia.


He has extensive management and consulting experience in quarrying (hard rock, soft rock and sand and gravel resources) and construction materials businesses. Prior to working in the quarrying sector, he was a project engineer for major civil infrastructure projects including underground works for hydro-electricity power developments in Tasmania and rail tunelling projects in the UK (Channel Tunnel, Crossrail corridor design).


ECOROC is networked with highly experienced specialist engineers, technical consultants and quarrying industry professionals across Australia. We can draw upon their specific expertise to form small, highly skilled project teams according to a client's needs.

Geological and Geotechnical Engineering

Dr. Graham Shorten, Principal ECRi Pty Ltd (Environmental and Community Risk International), Brisbane Australia.


Graham holds a Masters degree in geotechnical engineering (Sydney)  and has extensive experience in geological and geotechnical assessments for extractive industry and civil infrastructure in Australia. These include large scale regional assessments and site specific resource assessments and evaluation, mapping and interpretation of geotechnical and structural geology, and natural hazard risk management.


Graham consults regularly to Australia's major construction material firms and internationally in Europe, Asia, the Pacific Islands and Africa as a specialist consultant to institutions such as the World Bank.

Mike Cooper, Principal MD Cooper Consulting, Brisbane Australia
Mike is a civil engineer with over 30 years experience in management and operations in the construction materials industry (aggregates and pre-mixed concrete). He is a quarry development, crushing and screening plant and HME (heavy mobile equipment) specialist with comprehensive skills in risk management, cost estimation, benchmarking and productivity improvements.
Mike consults regularly to construction materials companies in Australia and internationally in Asia and the Middle East.
